Novocaine 2025 Movie Review

Nathan Caine, a reserved assistant manager at a San Diego credit union, lives with congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA), a rare condition preventing him from feeling physical pain. This forces a cautious lifestyle—liquid diets, padded furniture, and bathroom alarms—to avoid unnoticed injuries. Nicknamed “Novocaine” by childhood bullies, Nathan’s life shifts when co-worker Sherry Margrave shows romantic interest. After a night together, a gang of Santa-clad robbers, led by the brutal Simon Greenly, storms the bank on Christmas Eve, killing Nathan’s boss and taking Sherry hostage. Nathan, driven by love, embarks on a chaotic rescue mission, using his pain immunity to endure gruesome injuries—arrows, bullets, boiling oil—while fighting robbers and navigating traps, including a Home Alone-style booby-trapped house. His journey, marked by dark humor and gore, transforms him into an unlikely hero.

X posts reflect enthusiasm for the film’s wild energy, with users like @i_thenali calling Quaid “phenomenal” and praising the “unexpected action sequences” and comedy. @PNemiroff lauded its ability to sustain the premise, while @theFLICKpick compared it to Baby Driver and Nobody. However, some found the violence overwhelming or the plot “dumb,” suggesting it’s best enjoyed as a “time waster.
