Bazooka 2025 Movie Review

Set in a crime-ridden Kochi, the story tracks ACP Benjamin Joshua’s efforts to curb a series of audacious robberies. The perpetrator, dubbed “Mr. Mario,” taunts the police with cryptic, game-like hints, each heist mimicking the logic of classic video games (e.g., Super Mario, Temple Run). When the police hit a dead end, they enlist John Caesar, whose expertise unravels the criminal’s motives. Much of the narrative unfolds through Caesar’s conversations with Sunny Varghese (Hakkim Shah), a gamer, during a bus journey from Kochi to Bengaluru. The film explores themes of strategy, deception, and technology’s dark side but is criticized for leaning heavily on Mammootty’s charisma over substance. The gaming angle, while novel, feels superficial, with references to retro games that don’t fully integrate into a cohesive techno-thriller.

Supporting Cast: Hakkim Shah’s Sunny is an energetic but annoying gamer, overusing “bro” to grating effect. Shine Tom Chacko, Divya Pillai, and others (Jagadish, Siddharth Bharathan) have fleeting roles that fail to leave an impression, with critics calling them underutilized.

Mammootty (John Caesar): At 73, Mammootty delivers a dapper, commanding performance, excelling in action scenes and slow-motion sequences tailored for fan appeal. Critics praise his charisma, especially in the final 20–30 minutes, where he elevates the film with a surprising twist. However, some argue he sleepwalks through earlier parts, limited by a script that prioritizes style over depth.

Gautham Vasudev Menon (ACP Benjamin Joshua): Menon’s casting as a Kochi cop divides opinion. His polished English delivery feels jarring, and his Malayalam lines lack conviction, undermining the role’s gravitas. Reviews note he adds little value, with wooden expressions in key scenes.
