Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2 Movie Review
“Yuddhakaanda Chapter 2,” the latest Kannada courtroom drama, is now streaming on OTT platforms following a moderately successful theatrical run. Produced by lead actor Krishna Ajai Rao, previously celebrated for his romantic hero roles, the film marks the second directorial venture of Pavan Bhat, who debuted with “Cutting Shop.” During pre-release promotions, Pavan took a backseat, allowing Ajai to spearhead the campaign. “As a lesser-known face, I felt my role as writer and director would carry more weight after the film spoke for itself,” Pavan explains, now that the movie is available on Amazon Prime Video.
The film largely stays true to legal procedures but weaves in cinematic drama and heroism, which may polarize viewers. Pavan’s core audience, however, has embraced the film, particularly its melodramatic climax. “As a filmmaker, I don’t aim to target a specific audience. I want my work to resonate with everyone, regardless of their background or location. That said, no film is flawless, and there’s always room for growth,” he shares.
The climactic melodrama, likely added for cinematic flair, raises questions about its necessity. Could a more realistic approach have heightened the film’s impact? “It’s tough to say,” Pavan admits. “If I had shot alternate versions, I’d have a clearer answer. But with this version—featuring Ajai’s character delivering a dramatic monologue, almost as if wielding a sudarshana chakra, which some might find out of place in a courtroom—the audience response has been strong, with many saying it gave them chills.”
